Why I Own a Palm Pre Plus

In my car today, my wifi iPad seamlessly connected to the great halls and corridors of the world wide web all throughout my city drive. Thanks to my Pre Plus on Verizon I was able to connect to allow Steve Jobs' most coveted brainchild. So far it's been an enjoyable experience. The battery temperature always keeps me on edge though. I plan on (like millions of others) to picking up an iPhone 4 in just a few short weeks and activating the 200MB plan. What's my secret to such low data needs? It'll be connected to a beautiful little product brought to you by John Rubenstein. The combination seems to be a money saver, but only time will tell.

How I/Disconnected/And Lived to Tell the Story

About 20 days into my project and life just keeps getting better. There's no turning back.

Some time ago I realized I was addicted to a website we all know all facebook. I understood my addiction, what I had to do to free myself, and did it. I deactivated my account. At first I thought i was alone. An outcast, dissenter. I managed to convince two of my friends to do the same. Around that time buzz about facebook and privacy issues started to arise. I would read tweets and articles by the likes of Gartenberg, Gizmodo, and others realizing i wasn't alone in my strike against the book of face. Albeit I didn't leave because of privacy, I left because it was consuming my time on the web. Since then I've spread my time across multiple sites rather than allow one site to be preeminent. Yes, I do miss interactions with people I wouldn't normally see on a daily basis. Family, long distance friends, but there are ways around that. Remember there was a world before facebook.

I've said it once, I'll say it again. There's no turning back.

UPDATE: I'm back. 2 months was a decent run.

Elgin

I have lived almost my entire life here in Elgin, IL. So far it has been good to me. Went to a private school, travelled the world, and have met many people.

In life, we must learn to be a part of many circles. Not tied down to one more so than the other. Maneuverability is a key of real social networking. Friendly with everyone while putting your trust in a select few. Many people I meet are open books. Letting out their most inner thoughts without even knowing who they are talking to.

Last week I came to the conclusion that Facebook was a meaningless waste of time for me. Society tells you to have an account to keep up with friends, right? After deep thought lasting roughly 3 minutes I decided to close mine. It was as if I had rattled a beehive. I could barely hear myself over the buzz of "friends" telling me not to leave. A few jokes and about a week later here I am, enjoying life without the chains of a social networking addiction. More time to think, time to do, time to spend with real friends.

Lastly, a quote by Robert Green's 48 Laws of Power...

In a world inundated with presence...we are awed by anyone who is able to disappear by choice. Robert Green

220-215

As we've seen in the past, most things that the government has their hands in fails, e.g., Cash for Clunkers. It's too early to tell, but we'll see once this takes effect in 2014. You can find a fairly non-partisan article describing potential pros and cons of the bill here
